STATE OF OPPORTUNITY. Can Kids in Michigan Get Ahead?

Did you experience foster care in Michigan? We want to hear from you.

user Peter Lindberg

There are more than 13,000 youth in foster care in Michiganat any given time. There's no way we could possibly interview anywhere close to that number, but if we could, we would no doubt hear some heartwarming stories about being in care, some horror stories, and everything in between.

For an upcoming State of Opportunity radio documentary about foster care, I'm very interested in talking with those in Michigan who have experienced foster care at some point in their lives or have "aged out" of the system. What was your time in care like? Did you have a good experience? A not-so-good experience? What do you want people to know about the foster care system? If you aged out, what was that experience like? Any tips for current foster care youth on how to be resilient? Or, maybe, tips on what NOT to do? Whatever you want to share, we're listening.
